  3. Glycrine Humectants. The reference humectant. Cheap, proven, works at 3 to 10 percent.
  4. Cetyl AlcoholPore-clogging 2/5 Emollients. Fatty alcohol thickener.
  5. Cetearyl AlcoholPore-clogging 2/5 Emollients. Fatty alcohol thickener and co-emulsifier.
  6. Propylene Glycol Humectants. Glycol solvent and humectant, the older sibling of propanediol.
  7. Disodium Edta pH adjusters and chelators. Chelator that protects preservatives.
  8. Sodium Sulfite Preservatives. Hair waving or straightening, preservative
  9. Sodium Metabisulfite Preservatives. Antioxidant, preservative, reducing
  10. Phenoxyethanol Preservatives. The standard broad-spectrum preservative at up to 1 percent.
